VEDIC ASTROLOGY

Jyotish or Vedic astrology or Hindu astrology or Eastern astrology is also known as the Third Eye of the Vedas. It is a fascinating, elaborate system of prognostication or forecasting system, based on astronomical data and formulae propounded during the ‘Vedic’ period in India. It allows to carefully assess and understand behavior, to measure the effects of the past, the influence of the present and the tendency of events to unfold in the future.

The ‘Vedas’ are the oldest and most important scriptures of India, if not the world. It is a Sanskrit word meaning "knowledge”; and are called "apaursheya" which means beyond the realm of man and time. The Vedas were written by seers known as "Rishis", who in a state of transcendental meditation or expanded awareness understood the mechanics of creation. Vedic Astrology or ‘Jyotish’ is the result of this ancient work. Jyotisha or Jyotish is the Sanskrit name for Vedic Astrology meaning the "eye or light of nature". It describes the ability of an astrologer to view the mechanics of people's behavior as well as the projected cycles and outcomes of time and events.

Vedic Astrology was believed by ancient philosophers to have been instituted by Brahma, the creator. This knowledge was then passed down to various Rishis and finally to man. Vedic Astrology, in its current form, is thought to have been written several thousand years ago by Maharishi Parashara, although, following India's concepts of repeating time cycles, the work having existed several thousand years before this. "Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra" written by Maharshi Parashara is the pioneer and main text of Vedic Astrology and is known as ‘The Father of Vedic Astrology’.

With the help of Vedic Astrology, we can try to avoid problems before they arise and or take proper shape. In fact, a true astrologer uses the tools of Vedic Astrology to forecast the mentioned periods to help promote events in one's life or to help them go out of it.

Vedic astrologers believe in the theory of ‘Karma’ or proper actions. Through proper directed actions or ‘Karma’ Vedic Astrology believes some of the past and the future too can be bettered and streamlined. It is important to know that the effects seen in an astrological chart are not required to happen as they stand. A motivated, sincere person, under the competent guidance of an experienced Vedic astrologer, can make the effective changes in their lives. Vedic Astrology not only tells what might happen, but also presents potential remedies or corrective actions to help offset the quantity and quality of karmas that are returning to them, as seen in the birth chart. The natal chart is a list of the karmas or previous actions that we have brought into this life. The birth chart, commonly known as a Janma Kundali, represents our starting point in this life and where our pluses and minuses lie throughout our lives. The remedies include measures like gemstones, mantras, certain powerful rituals, shantis, and penance used to propitiate or soothe the impact associated with unfavorable planetary positions.

Vedic Astrology has the basic natal chart known as “Rasi", with the 27 constellations or "Nakshatras". Beyond this there are divisional charts for most aspects of life called "Shodasavargas", the most important being the "Navamsa", which is analyzed carefully for marriage matching and also used to uncover subtler aspects of a person's nature. Vedic Astrology uses about 42 kinds of conditional dasas or time or planetary for prognostications. The most important and most widely recognized planetary period being "Vimshottari Dasa" system which is used to track the karmic influences promised by a planet to a span of 120 years, with each planet ruling a specific period of a person's life, as affecting the mind of the native while other dasas affect the native through other standpoints! These being only a few of the multiple other techniques used by this esteemed and elaborate system of prognostication.
